A RAMSEY motorist escaped with his licence after admitting speeding on the A14 - at 98mph, according to the prosecution at Huntingdon Magistrates' Court.
Steven James Gailer, 29, of Upwood Road, admitted excess speed, but said the police officer who stopped him had showed him a reading of 87mph and he had subsequently accepted having driven at 93mph. "But I don't deny I was well over the speed limit," he told the bench.
The magistrates added five points to the six already on his licence, leaving him just one point short of a six-month ban under the "totting-up" procedure.
He was also fined £350 and ordered to pay £50 costs.
