IN response to the letter (January 6) regarding people with community service orders, I would have thought that, working for the council, your correspondent would know that for health and safety reasons the CSOs are not allowed to do the clearing of ice from the pavements for anyone, because it would make them liable for any injuries incurred with the clearance.
The CSOs do a lot of work for old people, providing it passes health and safety, and with the rules so tight it's hard for the people in charge of them to find work.
So don't knock the CSOs unless you have the full rules.
