THE very sad case of the young cyclist killed near St Neots (August 2) only goes to prove the stupidity of cycling without lights.

The youths in my village of Forty Foot do it all the time. The only difference is that they do it deliberately. In twos and threes they cycle down the centre of the main road, without lights in the dark, wearing dark clothes, and think it's funny. When one of them is killed, no doubt another distraught parent will be crying for their son.

Unfortunately, the parents of these boys in my village couldn't care less what their sons are up to after dark. They are out of control and think it is a joke to behave like idiots. I've nearly been knocked down on the pavement by one of these fools.

The reason behind the boys in my village cycling without lights is so that they can disappear quickly into the dark after they have committed an offence, such as vandalism, which the police seem unwilling or unable to deal with.
