A QUESTIONNAIRE sent out to all St Neots homeowners asking if they would support the idea of a town lottery has received a disappointing response.

The questionnaire was part of a feasibility study to see if the public would support St Neots having its own lottery, raising funds for the town.

Speaking to The Hunts Post, Ted Bocking, who is co-ordinating the findings of the questionnaire, said they have had a response from just 1.3 per cent of households.

He added that more than 20,000 questionnaires had been sent out but only 250 hard copies were completed and returned by the closing date on February 18.

However, among those who returned the forms, the idea proved popular with 90 per cent of people in favour of the lottery.

The town council has been discussing the possibility of setting up a lottery after the idea was first raised by town mayor Cllr Bob Eaton.

Early details suggested that tickets would cost £1 with profits generated going to St Neots-based charities or used to boost tourism.

Cllr Eaton said although there was a poor response, he hoped something would come of the lottery.

The findings of the lottery questionnaire are due to be discussed by St Neots Town Council on March 5 at the Priory Centre at 7pm.
