THE ongoing issue of keeping traffic off the Old Bridge in St Ives could soon be tackled with the help of some new, clearer signs.
Cars continue to use the ancient bridge – despite its being illegal for most vehicles – but Councillor Martin Collier, Mayor of St Ives, believes clearer signs would deter people from using the bridge and help safeguard its future.
“It is a long running problem in the town,” he said.
“We [the town council] shall look at whether we can introduce new signs further away in the town telling car drivers they can’t use it, or replace the ones currently at the bridge and make them clearer.”
