The latest addition to Huntingdon's skyline is almost complete, with four of the five new shop units in Chequers Walk already let and the fifth and largest the subject of detailed negotiations.

Last week, the developers, Churchmanor Estates showed Huntingdon Town Centre Partnership round the flagship development, from which the scaffolding is expected to be stripped next month. After fitting out, the new shops are expected to open in the spring.

Churchmanor director Howard White (inset, pictured right on the rooftop with, from left, Katy Sismore, town centre manager, Graham Hughes, Churchmanor Estates, and John Nunn, vice-chairman of the partnership) said the tenants would be new to the town, and he expected shoppers to be delighted by the addition to the range of stores that can be seen in the artist's impression.

The developers are being pressed by planners at Huntingdonshire District Council to bring forward proposals to redevelop the rest of Chequers Court, including a multi-storey car park. Plans are expected later in the year.
