WAITROSE unveiled its new-look store in St Neots on Friday (May 16), the first branch in the country to be converted into a local produce focused supermarket.

Town Mayor Cllr Robert Eaton, his wife Gay and deputy mayor, Cllr Alan Cummings were on hand to open the shop , accompanied by the music of a jazz band.

Branch manager Tim Cobley said: "We're very happy to offer our customers even more local and regionally produced food and drink, and give them a greater opportunity to taste what our suppliers have to offer."

The first three customers through the door - Faye Browne, Julia Osmond and Trevor Bartlett - each received a bottle of champagne and a bouquet of flowers from Waitrose.

After six days of work, Waitrose says the St Neots branch now has 200 per cent more locally produced food and drink lines and better emphasis on fresh foods, with over half the shop dedicated to fresh products.
