HUNTINGDON'S new radio station has its licence and is now looking for friends to help with some fundraising ahead of its spring 2010 launch.
HCRfm will be hitting the Huntingdonshire airwaves with a mix of music, talk, community and its very own daily soap drama, set in a hairdressing salon.
Lots of work is currently going on behind the scenes to set up a studio at the Saxongate Centre in Huntingdon High Street and another at Wood Green Animal Shelters in Godmanchester.
The community radio station has already recruited a large number of volunteers - people who want to work both on and off the air, making sure the station is a success.
However, the radio station is looking for people and businesses to become Friends of HCRfm - personal membership costs £36 a year, £12 for concessions and corporate membership is £99.
"We're looking to get about 1,000 in the next six months or so," said Bill Hensley, station manager. "We're looking for people and businesses who have enjoyed our programmes and people who want to get involved - not going on air or working, but people who will arrange a fundraising football match, a disco or fun run."
Mr Hensley, along with his radio colleagues, will be holding a meeting next week to provide more information about becoming a friend of HCRfm.
The meeting will take place on Monday, September 7, at the Old Bridge Hotel in Huntingdon.
Mr Hensley added friends would get a mention on the station's website as well as other benefits - such as loyalty card.
Away from the fundraising side HCRfm is expected to take delivery of its new studio equipment around Christmas time, before starting training and testing early in 2010.
The station is also working on plans for its very own soap opera. The drama would be set in a hairdresser's in Huntingdonshire and would-be actors from the area can get involved in taking part.
The show would run for five minutes each weekday, with an omnibus edition at weekends.
