TRANSPORT chiefs are set to discuss plans to put an extra busway stop in St Ives to extend services and make it easier to catch a bus in the town.

Cambridgeshire County Council’s cabinet will be discussing the proposals at its meeting on January 17.

The plan would see a new busway stop on Station Road, St Ives, for Cambridge-bound passengers, removing the need for buses to make a tight round-tour of the bus station, which has limited capacity, and saving time. The new stop means Stagecoach can extend all its services to run into and around St Ives.

The new stop would also reduce the number of people wanting to cross the A1096 on foot from the town to the park-and-ride.

It should also reduce congestion on Harrison Way, where needless pedestrian movements bring traffic to a standstill.
