New arrival: Mothers win volunteering award

AWARD WINNERS: Mums at a parent support group in St Neots have won a award in recognising their volunteer work helping new parents.

St Neots National Childbirth Trust (NCT) Bumps and Babes group has won the NCT Volunteer Awards 2009, sponsored by Pampers.

Two of the group organizers, Nicola Bonell and Jenny Barrett, collected the award at the NCT annual conference in Swansea.

The group celebrated its success with strawberries and cream during one of its meetings at the Eaton's Children's Centre in Bushmead Road, Eaton Socon.

The glass trophy and framed certificate will be kept at the centre.

Mrs Barrett, a mum of three, said: "It is wonderful to receive this recognition for the way that the group has grown over the last year.

"We have expanded from meeting in members' homes, to a church hall and then in January to the Eatons Children's Centre where we now regularly get 35 mums and babies coming along.

"We feel the group is really important as there are not many activities for mums when they have a small baby and yet this is a time when they get a lot of benefit from meeting other mums."
