THE Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for the East of England after predicting further snowfall over the weekend.

Snow will be heavy and frequent on Saturday, with further outbreaks on Sunday which will ease through the day.

The cold snap has been causing difficulties in Huntingdonshire, causing problems on the road and forcing the closure of schools.

But the weather didn't deter skaters on Bury Fen, including Peterborough Phoenix ice hockey player Steve Sewter, pictured, who used the big freeze as a chance to get in a bit of open-air practice.

Bury Fen has been used as skating rink for centuries, and is believed to be the birthplace of the sport of Bandy and home to one of the world's first bandy clubs, the Bury Fen Bandy Club, which went undefeated for 100 years.
