MOTORISTS have been warned of more overnight road closures in Huntingdon as work continues on the railway viaduct.

The Highways Agency said the road closures will continue on Brampton Road in August and September while strengthening work takes place on the bridge.

Project sponsor Paul Sinfield said: “The work to strengthen the Huntingdon Railway Viaduct is going well and we would like to thank road users and residents for their continued patience during this important work.

“We have finished installing the new steel beams on the northern side of the viaduct over Brampton Road and have begun installation on the southern side, next to the train station. These beams provide extra support for the bridge deck and help to spread the load borne by the existing joints. We expect all beams to be in place by the end of September.

“Once the beams are in place, we will move into the final stages of work which will include painting and adding corrosion protection, replacing signs that were removed for work and returning the station car park to its original layout.

“New signs have already been installed to warn road users of the new height restriction under the viaduct, along with detection equipment to alert particularly high vehicles. A turn around area has been built at the junction of Hinchingbrooke Park Road and Brampton Road to allow high vehicles to safely turn around in the unlikely event that warning signs are missed. We expect all work to be complete by the end of November.”

Some closures are expected in October, but dates have not yet been confirmed.

INFORMATION: Diversions will be via the B1514 and A14.
