I AM very concerned that the tenfold exaggeration in Lord de Ramsey's letter on global warming (May 13) has not been corrected.
He stated that around 300 years ago temperatures rose over three degrees in less than 40 years. This false information gives the impression that current global warming is considerably less than natural climate variations. Scientific estimates for the rise over the period are around 0.3 degrees.
The error is serious, as Lord de Ramsey's past chairmanship of the Environment Agency adds authority to his letter.
