TWO men have been charged with offences in connection with the theft of underground British Telecom cable in Cambridgeshire.

Kevin Smith, aged 22, of Cambridge Road, St Neots, and Solly Smith, aged 26, of Kempston Hardwick, Bedford, are due to appear at Cambridge Magistrates' Court on Thursday (September 4).

Cambridgeshire police said they have been charged with various offences relating to the theft of cable between September last year and March 2008.

The alleged thefts were said to have happened near villages including Swavesey, Longstanton and Great Gidding.

Kevin Smith has been charged with going equipped to steal, fraud, converting criminal property, conspiracy to convert criminal property and attempted theft.

Solly Smith has been charged with fraud, converting criminal property and conspiracy to convert criminal property.
