A leading boiler manufacturer has stamped its mark on the district with the aim of teaching the engineers of the future.

Baxi has opened its 17th training centre on Cardinal Park, in Godmanchester, to offer a wide range of courses to those looking to get into the industry or to retrain.

The facility marks the company’s decision to increase its footprint in East Anglia and offer customers access to Baxi’s full range of comprehensive training courses.

The training centre was officially opened on May 2 by the former mayor of Godmanchester, Councillor Peter Morgan.

Steve Owen, national training manager at Baxi, said: “The Godmanchester training centre will give local engineers the opportunity to refresh their knowledge and learn new skills so they can offer the very best service to their customers.”

The courses on offer at the centre will include free Baxi product training, repair and maintenance courses, system wiring and controls, and accredited courses.

“We’re proud of the support we offer to heating engineers in the UK and Ireland, and our training offering is central to that,” Mr Owen added.

“We know that engineers are busy and it can be difficult for them to keep up to date with the latest products and practices. We also know that they need training opportunities to be close to them, to avoid them having to take additional time away from work to travel.”

As well as hands-on sessions, engineers can benefit from insider knowledge, tips from the company’s expert trainers and professional advice on products and troubleshooting.

Along with the site in Godmanchester, the company has 16 other training centres throughout the UK making it easier for customers to seek out and receive good quality training to improve their skills.

The opening of the new centre comes as the firm celebrates its 150th year in business.

Started in 1866 by Richard Baxendale, in Chorley, Lancashire, Baxi has seen the industry change from initially offering fires to now even creating a tool belt app for installers.
