A man attempted to rob a 12-year-old girl as she walked to school in Huntingdon.

The young girl was walking alone in Desborough Road, towards Hartford Road, at about 7.45am on Thursday, December 4 when she was approached by a man.

The man asked her for the time, so she pulled out her mobile phone to have a look and replied. As she did so, the man shouted, "Give me your phone", and attempted to grab her arm but only got her jacket.

She managed to shake herself free before running away and calling her mother who alerted police. The victim was shaken but not hurt.

The man was described as white, about six foot, stocky, in his mid 30s and clean shaven. He was wearing a cream fleece top, blue tracksuit bottoms and a blue baseball cap.

PC Nick Eagle, from Huntingdon Police Station, said: "This was a cowardly attempt to rob a young girl and I am keen to catch the man responsible.

"I would appeal for anyone who was in the area to consider whether they saw the incident or a man matching the description provided."
