A 23-year-old Huntingdon man was attacked as he walked down an alleyway in the town.

Police said the man was seriously injured in the assault which took place as the man walked from Ambury Road towards Horse Common Road, between 1am and 1.40am on Sunday (August 24).

He was approached by three men wearing dark clothing, two of whom began punching him.

The victim suffered serious injuries but was able to walk to a nearby taxi office where an ambulance was called.

He was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital, in Cambridge, and was later discharged.

Detective Constable Mark Cockerham, from Huntingdon CID, said: "This was an unprovoked attack which left the victim very shaken.

"I am asking anyone who was in the area at the time to consider whether they saw anything that could help this investigation."
