LOVE is still conquering all for a St Neots couple who are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary today (Wednesday).
Walter and Olive Clarke, of Constable Avenue, met under a tree at Wickstead Park, Kettering, in the summer of 1939.
Walter, 89, recalls: "I was riding through the park with my cousin when I caught a glimpse of these two girls picnicking under a tree."
Olive, 84, continued: "He came over and said 'Have you got a crumb for me?' and I've been making crumbs for him ever since!"
The couple, known as Wally and Olly to their friends, have two daughters, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
"Anyone who says they've been married for a long time and never had a cross word isn't telling the truth," said Olive. "We have our ups and our downs but we always kiss and make up before we go to bed.
