The public will be jumping on board Cambridgeshire’s guided busway for the first time today with the long overdue transport system making its maiden voyage first thing this morning.

It is three years since contractors BAM Nuttall began working on the world’s longest guided busway which has a total of 16 miles of track.

Stretching from St Ives to Orchard Park and the Science Park and then from Cambridge station through to Addenbrooke’s, it is hoped the busway will revolutionise transport into and around the city by slashing congestion.

We will be riding the guided bus during this morning’s launch. For a mile-by-mile account of its maiden journey and the many people gathering to witness the busway in action click on the link on the right hand side of the page.
