AN old suitcase, swan-shaped plant pot, motorbike exhaust pipe and a Christmas tree were among the rubbish cleared by a residents group from the streets of Godmanchester.

The Tudor Fields Residents’ Group was joined by children from the town to clear rubbish from 10 streets around Tudor Road.

They filled six bin bags full of litter and cleared debris including gas canisters and a chair.

“We were really pleased that the children came out and joined us on the litter pick, it was great to see them getting involved and taking pride in the area,” said Jim Worlding, from the residents’ group.

The group received funding from Friends Of Muir Group, the charity arm of Muir Group Housing Association, for the hi-vis vests and bin liners for the litter pick on Saturday, September 3.

They were also joined for the litter pick by the association’s community engagement officer Jan Kaneen who said: “The children worked really hard during the litter pick and everyone had a lot of fun while helping to improve the look of the area.

“Tudor Fields Residents’ Group has worked hard helping us identify and resolve local priorities and one of these was fly-tipping which is why we got together to do the litter pick.

“Another community issue is landscaping and gardening so we will be meeting again to plant thousands of snowdrops and we need as many people as possible to help.”

INFORMATION: The snowdrop plant will take place on Saturday, October 22 at 10am on Tudor Green.
