Road works and road closures planned for the East of England in the week ahead

The planned works cover Monday to Sunday, October 15-21.

ROAD WORKS

M11 junction 14 (A14 Girton Interchange): Exit slip road resurfacing

Resurfacing of the northbound J14 exit slip road takes place on Monday 15 October between 9pm and 5am. The slip road will be reduced to single lane running while the work is carried out.

M40 junctions 1 to 15: routine maintenance

Routine maintenance works include of slip roads and through junctions with two lanes. Works include sweeping, drainage cleaning, litter picking, vegetation cutting, white lining, street lighting maintenance, defect repair (including street lighting defects), inspection of the assets including structures and safety fence repair.

These works will continue until late November, over subsequent nights from 8pm, with planned re-opening times 7am on weeknights and 8am on weekends.

On Monday 15 October, there will be a closure of the southbound entry and exit slips at Junction 2 from diverge point with main carriageway to roundabout with A40/A355.

Exit slip road users will continue to travel southbound along the M40 and leave at Junction 1 exit slip. Turn right and right again to re-join the M40 northbound. Travel northbound to leave at Junction 2 exit slip.

Entry slip road users will continue around Junction 2 roundabout to join the M40 northbound and leave the M40 at Junction 3 exit slip. Turn right at the roundabout to re-join the M40 southbound and travel back to Junction 2.

On Tuesday 16 October there will a closure of the north and southbound main carriageway from junction 2 diverge point with exit slip to Junction 2 merge point with entry slip.

Diversion:

Northbound traffic will leave M40 at junction 2 northbound exit slip and travel around junction 2 roundabout to re-join the M40 using Junction 2 northbound entry slip

Southbound traffic will leave M40 at junction 2 southbound exit slip and travel around junction 2 roundabout to re-join the M40 using Junction 2 southbound entry slip

On Saturday 20 October there will be a closure on the northbound entry and exit slip at Warwick services from diverge point with main carriageway to junction with services road network – no diversion.

A1(M) junction 17, Stamford: safety improvements

Works will be carried out in stages to clear vegetation, repair the road, install sign posts, install traffic counter loops and refresh white lining and studs has begun and is scheduled to complete on Tuesday 16 October. On Monday 15 October a lane 2 closure will be in place on the northbound and southbound A1 carriageway between Wansford and Stamford and no diversion will be required. On Tuesday 16 October a full northbound and southbound closure will be in place on the A1 between Wansford and Stamford. For drivers heading north, a clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A47 and A43 before re-joining the A1 at Stamford. For drivers heading south a clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A43 and A47 before re-joining the A1 at Wansford.

A1/A428 junction at Wyboston: bridge repairs

Work to repair the flyover at this junction continues this week. There will be single lanes over the flyover for the duration of the bridge repairs, and a series of closures as follows, from 9pm to 6am with signed diversions:

Monday 15 October: The A428 westbound entry slip will be closed at this junction, with a short diversion around the junction.

Wednesday 17 October: The A1 southbound carriageway will be closed at this junction, with a short diversion around the junction.

Thursday 18 October: The A1 northbound carriageway will be closed at this junction, there will be a signed diversion via the A428 / A1198 / A14.

A11 Fiveways roundabout Mildenhall: road sign, traffic light, traffic sensing loops, speed enforcement hard standings installation and safety improvements

Work to install road signs, traffic lights, traffic sensing loops, hard standings for mobile speed enforcement and re-lining of the roundabout is underway and due to complete around mid-November. Lane closures will be in place on the Fiveways roundabout rings between 8pm and 6am on weeknights, with no total closures or diversions currently required.

A12 and A120, Essex: safety barrier repairs

An ongoing programme of work to repair damaged safety barriers along the A12 and A120 in various locations continues this week, with working hours of 8pm to 6am, weeknights only. Single lane closures will be in place past the area being worked on.

A12 junction 28 to 27, Colchester: Motts Bridge refurbishment

Work to maintain road user safety continues this week. One lane of the junction 27 exit slip road will remain closed 24 hours a day.

A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire: major improvements

Construction work on the new A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon scheme is underway. We are currently carrying out a variety of tasks for which we need to close lanes or carriageways on the A1, A14 and some local roads at times, usually overnight between 8pm and 6am, unless otherwise stated. A clearly signed diversion route will always be in place for closures.

ROAD CLOSURES

Full closures:

Monday 15 to Thursday 18 (four nights)

A1 southbound between Alconbury and Buckden

Vehicles will be diverted south on the A14 link road, then east on the A14, south on the A1198 and west on the A428 to re-join the A1

Monday 15 to Friday 19 (five nights)

A1 northbound between Buckden and Alconbury

Vehicles will travel east on the A428, north on the A1198, west on the A14 and then north on the A14 link road to re-join the A1

A14 westbound Brampton Hut junction 21 to Ellington junction 20

A signed diversion will be in place. Vehicles will follow the A14 link road at junction 23 to travel north on the A1(M) then travel west on the A605 to re-join the A14 at junction 13

Non motorway traffic west at Wooley Road, south on Ellington Road and west at Wooley Hill to re-join the A14

A14 eastbound Ellington junction 20 to Brampton Hut junction 21

A signed diversion will be in place. Vehicles will travel east on the A605, south on the A1(M) to the A14 link road to rejoin the A14 at junction 23.

Non motorway traffic will be diverted east at Wooley Hill, then north on Ellington Road and Wooley Road to re-join the A14.

A428 eastbound Madingley to A14 eastbound junction 33

Motorway traffic will travel south on the M11, east on A505 and north on A11 to re-join the A14. Non motorway traffic will be diverted on local roads through Cambridge.

M11 junction 14 exit slip

A14 westbound between junctions 36 and 31

Motorway traffic will travel south on the A11, west on the A505 and then north on the M11.

Non motorway traffic will diverted on local roads through Cambridge

Vehicles will be diverted south on the A14 link road, then east on the A14, to re-join the A1 at Brampton Hut

Conington Road

A47 Guyhirn: slope stabilisation, vegetation clearance

Works to stabilise the A47 westbound slope has begun and will take approximately 13 weeks. No diversion will be required as we have widened the road at the works site to accommodate two-way traffic where a 40mph speed restriction will be in place.

A120 Hare Green roundabout, Harwich Road, Essex: safety improvements

The Harwich Road junction with the A120 and the central reserve gap by Park Road are now closed.
