Most people are well into retirement by the time they reach 70, but Les Demaine was just beginning his new job as part-time caretaker at the Commemoration Hall, Huntingdon. Now, 10 years on, Les has handed in his keys. As caretaker, Les was responsible for setting up the hall and looking after the building. Although employed to work 20 hours a week, he frequently exceeded this and covered for the full-time caretaker in his absence, often working well over 50 hours a week. Chairman of the trustees of the Commemoration Hall charity, Jon Hampstead, said: "We'll miss his cheery smile and Les's wicked sense of humour. "Les was appreciated by all our hirers and I pay tribute to his loyal and devoted service these past 10 years.
