NEW Council Tax bills include a leaflet from HDC giving a comparison of parish and town precepts. Brampton collects one of the very highest village precepts while holding reserves of about a quarter of a million pounds.
This year that reserve stands to increase as the result of an unexpected underspend of about £8,000.
A small group of parish councillors was designated at the last parish council meeting to decide on ways of spending the reserve - is this the correct way to run our village finances, or should we be seeking to reduce the Council Tax burden?
I am writing this letter as an individual because there is a motion being considered by Brampton Parish Council to prevent its members declaring their membership when contacting the media about council business.
