Joe, right, with Ian McNabb.

A ST Ives hairdresser had one of his dreams come true on Friday when his musical idol played a private gig in his garage... and he even got to sing with him.

Joe Labriola and 25 of his friends and family filled his garage in Green Leys where they were entertained by Ian McNabb, founder and lead singer of 80s band The Icicle Works.

"It was fantastic and went really, really well," Mr Labriola, who owns Joe's Barbers in Cromwell Mews, St Ives, told The Hunts Post. "We managed to keep the location secret and he played from 8pm until midnight."

The evening started with Ian playing an hour-long set of his own hits, before - in true rock tradition - breaking for pizza and vodka.

After refreshments, the 80s star performed covers from Pink Floyd and The Who.

Joe even got to sing with Ian, performing a rendition of The Icicle Works song When It All Comes Down, which was videoed by one of his friends.

Before Ian left, Joe also got him to sign some of his CDs.

"He is a real character," said Joe. "He likes his drink and is a real rock 'n' roll star. He is also a thoroughly nice bloke."

Although it cost Joe £500 to host the gig, he said it was worth every penny. "Not wanting to sound too star-stuck, it was a small price to pay to see my musical inspiration playing in my garage. It was an early 40th birthday present to myself and worth every penny."
