A STATEMENT from Luminus said the new building, which would incorporate a library learning centre, services for children and young people, a community information centre and some high quality housing, fitted into the Ramsey Area Health Check and Action Plan developed over the past three years by the Ramsey Area Partnership and the Ramsey Action Group.

It added: "Having been through 13 versions, the plans shown on the evening were the preferred choice of Huntingdonshire District Council's planning department, supported by parties including the library service and social services. The public consultation evening was a significant part of a wider process to hear people's views. Luminus will take these into account."

Malcolm Brown, of Plowman Brown Architects, which designed the new building, said the plans were appropriate to the setting, provided for the needs of the building's users, and used materials appropriate to the setting. HDC said the authority did not wish to comment at this stage.
