Yesterday, there was a severe frost in St Ives, a dusting of snow in Godmanchester but proper snow in Huntingdon...or was there?

The debate raged on until after the snow had melted: Had the district been snowed upon?

The crunch under foot said yes, national weather forecasters said no, it was a frost.

And this photograph taken in Godmanchester does not make it much clearer.

In Huntingdon, car windscreens were also covered with 'snow' centimetres thick.

In fact, snow is defined as a frozen precipitation in the form of white or translucent hexagonal ice crystals that fall in soft, white flakes.

Temperatures are predicted to be back up to 12C by Saturday.
