A St Neots-based youth choir is hoping to raise money through events and sponsorship to allow them to compete in the World Choir Games in July.

The Riverside Singers are part of the newly-formed youth musical theatre group, the Riverside Theatre Company, with members aged 14-21, many having had no formal training before joining. The group won the Choir of the Year title at the Eastern final of the Rotary Young Musician 2007 when known as the Peppercorns singers. The group will need to produce a CD of songs as part of its Olympics bid and if successful will go on to perform in the main competition in Austria.

The competition is spread over four days and involves singing in three or four parts, singing four songs for the competition, including one in German, and singing in group events with choirs from all over the world as part of the festival "friendship" programme. Fundraising began last month when the choir sang at Huntingdon Farmers' market and raised £121.45.

INFORMATION: Anyone interested in sponsoring or joining the choir should contact the Riverside Theatre Company on 07928 947479 or visit www.riversidetheatrecompany.co.uk
