FOLLOWING the Government's threat to close all of our local post offices, we now hear that the next act of gross stupidity is closing down all pharmacies that do not complete the filling of a certain number of prescriptions. If this totally uncaring, flailing Government goes ahead with this, it will be a very callous act and it will cause undue stress on people who are at their most vulnerable, while they are ill. Delays in filling prescriptions could prove fatal in some cases. Those who are terminally ill or have long -term illnesses will suffer great stress at a time when they should be being pampered. All of this to save a few bob. I will be fully opposing any closures of pharmacies in our chemist shops and invite everyone to join me. Councillor JEFF DUTTON, Huntingdon North, Falcon Drive, Hartford * Editor's note: Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust confirmed that the issue stemmed from changes to pharmacists' contracts in 2005. No pharmacies in Huntingdonshire were at risk.
