THERE was an unexpected breakfast guest for one Huntingdon family last Friday morning when baby Bradley Andrew made an entrance into the world - without his mother realising she was pregnant.

The Parker family's bank holiday weekend began with a shock when mum Michelle gave birth to the healthy little boy, who weighed six pounds and nine ounces.

The mum of four woke up at home in Ermine Street just after 4.30am with pains in her abdomen and she recognised the signs of labour. It was her husband, Andrew, though, who was harder to convince.

Speaking from Hinchingbrooke Hospital on Friday morning, where she arrived in time to give birth, Michelle told The Hunts Post: "I knew that I was having labour pains and I woke up Andrew. He didn't believe me and was going to just go to work. I told him to call an ambulance and he picked the phone up to call them as a joke. When I didn't stop him, I think he realised I was serious."

Dad Andrew, a foreman at Aggregate Industries, said: "I just thought she was winding me up. I was off to work when she said to me 'I'm having a baby'. I turned around and said 'You're having a laugh' and then picked up my mobile."

It was just a couple of hours later, at 7.38am, when the couple's new son, their fifth child, arrived.

Michelle said: "To be honest it was all over so quickly that I had no time to think about anything. Once I was in hospital, it was all pretty straight-forward really."

Casting her mind back over the past nine months, the now-mum of five said, apart from fluctuating weight, there were no signs she was expecting another child.

"My weight is always up and down so that didn't really make me think there was anything out of the ordinary. I felt just like normal."

The couple's four other children Danielle, 15, Ashley, 12, Claire, 10, and Courtney, seven, were also stunned to meet their baby brother, who came home from hospital on Friday afternoon.

Yesterday (Tuesday) the couple were still coming to terms with their news, after a hectic weekend with their new-born.

Andrew said: "I had the shock of my life. It's just starting to sink in really. I felt a bit weepy-eyed when it all hit home. People have said that we must have known, but I've been telling them that we would have at least had a bottle in the house."

Friends, relatives and neighbours quickly rallied round the family, who now have more baby items than they need.

"We didn't have anything at all, but so much stuff has been given to us that it's unbelievable. We've gone from one extreme to the other," said Michelle, who was only moving furniture around two weeks ago.
