TRADESMEN are being urged to be vigilant following a number of tool thefts from work vehicles in Huntingdonshire.

From July 13 to October 13 there were nine offences, all of them committed on a Sunday or during the early hours of Monday morning. The offences took place in Brampton, Huntingdon, Yaxley and Farcet.

Huntingdon Sector Inspector Ian Ford said: "Theft of tools can be devastating, as tool collections have often been built up over a number of years and are exactly the tools required for the individual's trade.

"The aggrieved will often have to replace the items one by one, losing business as a result."

He added that tools should not unnecessarily be left in vehicles and owners should mark their property and record serial numbers to aid their identification if stolen.
