A WHITEHALL decision to slash £6million from Cambridgeshire's Housing Growth Fund over the next couple of years means plans to build a new link road between Hinchingbrooke Park Road and Views Common in Huntingdon will be delayed.

The road would have provided much-needed infrastructure for development of the Hinchingbrooke Park area, but Huntingdonshire Regional College's relocation plans to the police playing field have been scuppered by a chaotic funding débâcle at the Learning and Skills Council, meaning an offer of £40million has been withdrawn.

The delay is frustrating for HDC's plans and the road is now likely to go ahead as part of the Highways Agency's A14 upgrade, with a link to the de-trunked road after the viaduct is demolished in seven or eight years' time.
