MR Dixon (Is college too ambitious? Letters, May 6) should check his facts before exposing his opinions so publicly. The relocation plan has not "failed", as he claims. The Learning and Skills Council Cambridgeshire (LSC) has acknowledged the college as a "high priority for renewal" and agreed the education case including the relocation proposal.

Mr Dixon has completely misunderstood why the college's building project is currently stalled at the LSC. The project has been in a queue for formal endorsement by the LSC's national capital committee since September 2008.

Unfortunately, in its eagerness to fulfil the Government's policy objective of rebuilding colleges to 'world-class' standards, the LSC failed to keep track of how much money it was promising to colleges throughout the country. In March this year it was revealed that the LSC had committed almost three years of capital funding in one year and would be consulting on how to prioritise the 144 projects in the queue for funding. This process is under way, and Huntingdonshire's case needs to be heard loud and clear at the LSC and in Whitehall, where decisions on priorities will be made.

We have much to be proud of in the college in recent years - increasing recruitment, good success rates, strong financial performance and an expanding training service to local businesses.

This performance cannot be sustained for much longer in buildings that have had their day. Huntingdonshire has every reason to expect priority investment, and Mr Dixon should be backing this case not decrying it.
