MORE volunteers from Huntingdonshire have learned how to grit roads and paths in rural communities to keep residents safe this winter.
The scheme run by Cambridgeshire County Council has already trained more than 100 people in the county to use different types of gritting equipment.
Volunteers Geoff Fisher, of Holywell cum Needingworth, Chris Potter and Jake Langran, both from Hilton, Simon Mayes and Danny White, from Cambourne, and county councillor Ian Bates, were the latest gritting students who will be on call when the ice takes over.
Officials hope that instructing people from parish councils across the district will avoid the unpleasant scenes last year when people regularly fell over as paths were covered with ice.
