A HUNTINGDON man has been jailed after admitting a string of shed burglaries.

Algis Tautkevicius, 21, stole tools after breaking into seven sheds in Godmanchester, Kings Ripton and Upton, and was caught after leaving fingerprints at the scene of one of the burglaries.

He struck at four homes in the same road in Green Lane, Upton, and raided outbuildings behind two homes in Godmanchester. He also admitted stealing from a shed in Ramsey Road, Kings Ripton.

He was caught after a fingerprint was recovered at a crime scene. Officers searched his home and discovered a range of stolen property.

He pleaded guilty on Thursday (December 9) at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court to two counts of burglary – in Godmanchester, on October 27, and in Upton, on November 4.

He asked for five other offences to be taken into consideration.

He was sentenced to three months in custody.

Detective constable Chris Bacon, who investigated, said: “It was pleasing to be able to seize the stolen property, which included high value tools, and be able to return them to the rightful owners.

“We take all types of burglary very seriously and realise the effect it can have on residents. This case shows our determination to investigate such crime and bring offenders to justice.”
