A ST IVES ropeworks that has been in business for nearly two centuries will be the subject of the town's civic society's next lecture, on Friday, April 21. Betty Yeandle will speak to the Free Church on the history of Robb's ropeworks, which started as a family business in East Street in 1814, making ropes and twine, collars for horses, elevators for threshing machines, and nets for cattle trucks and tennis courts. It later diversified to produce canvas tents and marquees. It remained as a family concern until 1990, and now trades as Robb and Son under new ownership in New Road. INFORMATION: Lecture starts 7.30pm. Further information from Peggy Seamark on 01480 497384.
