A LORRY fire caused the eastbound A14 between Huntingdon and Cambridge to be closed for eight hours from 6.30pm on Tuesday, October 20 until 2am on Wednesday October 21.

The Parnell Transport lorry from Lutterworth in Leicestershire, carrying clothes and food broke down and caught fire near Lolworth.

Both carriageways were closed for the first hour because black smoke was blowing across the road. After that, just the eastbound carriageway was shut and traffic already on the A14 going east took several hours to be diverted off at the Swavesey/Boxworth junction.

Traffic was diverted off the A14 at Godmanchester and diverted onto the A1198.
