The leak, in Hartford Road, caused congestion around the whole Huntingdon area on Saturday as the route had to be closed near the busy ring road junction while Anglian Water engineers started repairs. All the traffic passing through the town centre was diverted through Trinity Place, a bus lane beside Sainsburys car park and out on to the ring road at the multi-storey car park exit. A number of homes in the area also had problems with their water supply. A spokesman for Anglian Water said: Our engineers were alerted to a burst water main on Hartford Road in Huntingdon on Saturday morning. Because of the depth of the damaged pipe underground Hartford Road needed to be closed to allow us to make the repair safely. The spokesman said: The repair has now been completed and all customers water supplies have been restored. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank local residents, businesses and road users for their patience while this work is completed. The closure had a knock-on effect on the already-congested ring road and delays on its feeder roads, although drivers have since been avoiding the area.
