Part of the application included measures to improve the roads around Godmanchester and Huntingdon. The ring road (Riverside Road) by the Old Bridge Hotel would be altered to allow the traffic to move more freely. Say farewell to the traffic lights that currently control vehicle flows from the ring road and the town bridge, and also bid farewell to the current dual-lane ring road set up. Should the changes take place, traffic travelling around the ring road will be reduced to one lane the other lane by the traffic island will become a filter lane for the hotel including a new give way area. Motorists looking to join the ring road from Godmanchester will also be faced with one lane to join the ring road and another serving the hotel. The area will not become completely free-flow. The light-controlled predestrain crossings will remain. A Cambridgeshire County Council document states that the scheme passed its computer modelling tests. It adds: The modelling assessment shows that the developers proposals can mitigate the impact of the development at this junction without significant impacts elsewhere on the ring road.
