TALENTED singers from Huntingdonshire swept the board when they won prizes at the finals of the Rotary Young Musician of the Year contest.

At the finals in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, students at Stageworks school in Buckden, Sarah Copson and David Harrison, both 17 and from St Neots, came away with the prize for senior ensemble and the overall trophy for a vocal ensemble.

Also winners at the competition were youngsters at St Anne's School, Godmanchester, who won junior vocal ensemble. The winner of the junior solo vocal in the six to 10-years-old section was Rebecca Cave from St Neots.

Also in St Neots, two choirs from Peppercorns Performing Arts scooped first prizes in the intermediate and senior sections - aged seven to 11, and 11-18 respectively.

By coincidence, a Sunday teacher at Peppercorns, who will be directing the school's next major musical, The Wiz, entered his school choir from Bourn Abbey School in Lincolnshire and that choir won the infants' section.
