A KART-mad youngster from St Neots is raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital in her first season of competitive racing.

Helen Horner, 12, has been karting for two years but is hoping to use her first full season of national competition to raise money for the children's hospital.

Sponsors will be invited to offer a set amount of money for each point the youngster achieves in the championship. A website - www.penniesforpoints.co.uk - has been set up to help promote Helen's cause.

Proud mum Julie Horner said: "Helen chose Great Ormond Street because a friend of hers received excellent treatment there and she wanted to help out."

The championship will take place across Europe and gets under way in Wales on February 17. Helen's exploits will be documented on national television channel Motors TV, available on Freeview and Sky.
