I UNDERSTAND that last year's Poppy Appeal raised almost £26million, thanks to the public's generosity.
Armistice Day falls on Remembrance Sunday this year, and my wife and I will be paying our respects at the war memorial in Market Square, Huntingdon, on November 11. I am sure that most people would think it right and proper to reflect for a couple of minutes on the debt owed to our servicemen and women.
May I ask everyone to give as generously as they are able to the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal, which continues to provide the main source of funds to maintain the legion's many welfare and benevolent schemes and to safeguard the interests and memory of armed forces personnel who have served their country so well.
Councillor PHILLIP SWALES, Chairman, Huntingdonshire District Council
