GATES from St Neots Community College into the Broadwalk/Hardwick Road area were closed to the public from Monday.

The gates will be open solely for school pupils and staff to enter and leave the school between 8am and 9.15am, and 3.15pm and 4pm.

A statement from principal Mark Duke said: "Last week we sent a letter home to parents. There are health and safety issues involved in our decision to close the gates. One factor is that people walk there across our campus, which is private property, and leave dog mess on the site. We can no longer accept this. Other educational establishments in the district face similar dilemmas.

"While, of course, we welcome all members of the public who use our community facilities, our prime concern will always be the health, welfare and safety our pupils, staff and visitors.
