MORE adult volunteers are needed to help provide support and be a friend to children in care.

The National Youth Advocacy Service works with Cambridgeshire County Council to provide the Cambridgeshire independent visitor (IV) scheme.

Volunteers are trained and matched with children and young people in care, giving them the opportunity of having an adult friend who is independent of social services.

Meetings are usually on a monthly basis, with the first few visits taking place in the young person's home, giving everyone an opportunity to get to know one another.

Once established, the IV and young person will plan trips out - a monthly allowance is available for visits and refreshments.

The next training course takes place in Huntingdon on Saturday, April 26.
