I WRITE in absolute disgust and shock at the irresponsible proceedings of Mike Barnard and the Stop Cambridge Wind Farm Action Group.

The members are as the energy sources they would seem to prefer to use, fossils, set in their ways and unwilling to accept that the world is changing. Will Mike Barnard live to see the affect of the gas-guzzling, coal-burning society that he has helped to create? I hopefully will, but my children certainly will.

Rather than fighting against the Government's plans to increase the use of renewable energy sources we should be embracing it and focusing our time and energy on accommodating wind farms.

The council's planning committee and Councillor Nick Wright (chairman) need to understand that having a policy to allow only small wind farms of two or three turbines is preposterous. Each turbine can produce enough energy to power a thousand houses. I am sure that the total population of the 17 villages opposing the wind farm is greater than two or three thousand.

The justifications for the action group's disapproval are pathetic; there is nothing that suggests that drivers would be distracted on the A14 - if this were the case, surely advertising boards should be removed. Drivers should be focused on the driving task and paying full attention to the road and conditions, not to mention that there is already a wind farm visible on the A14 towards Kettering and Corby which has never distracted me whilst driving.

Aviation safety being used as a concern will possibly be removed by Cambridge City Airport - many other airports have and are dealing with this problem, the MOD are working with wind farm developers to control the affect the propeller tips have on their radars.

I also cannot believe that anyone would suggest that they destroy the natural splendour of our countryside. Although I accept that beauty is in they eye of the beholder, I personally find the designs inoffensive and visually appealing.

As a child I remember many family walks past the Sandy Heath transmitter and the talking point surrounding this interesting tower. Maybe the Stop Cambridge Wind Farm Action Group would like this removed, then they could save energy by leaving their TV sets off without having any TV channels to tune into.

My final thought goes to the action group's slogan "Offshore, not onshore". In 50 years' time when the affects of global warming have melted the polar ice caps, East Anglia could be under sea level. Maybe then the site could be considered as an offshore site and Morag Ellis QC's words will be truer than ever. It "would touch every aspect of the lives of local people".
