RAMSEY Carnival was a victim of the storm on Saturday and ended early when lightning flashed across the sky.

Organiser Jane Mann said: "We saw the flashes and people took cover but up until then it had been a very good day and hundreds of people lined the streets and joined us on Ailwyn School field.

The theme of the carnival was Eighty Glorious Years, marking the birthday of the Queen.

The winning float was from the Spinning Infants School with youngsters dressed up as toy soldiers. Second prize went to Ramsey Town Centre Partnership with the chairman of Cambridgeshire County Council, Councillor Susan Normington, dressed as the Queen and Neville Bailey as The Duke of Edinburgh.
