THE first ever national Armed Forces Day to honour service men and women past, present and future was marked in Huntingdon on Monday by military and civic dignitaries. A special commemorative flag was raised at Huntingdonshire District Council's premises, Eastfield House in Latham Road, Huntingdon. For the past three years, the nation has marked Veterans' Day on June 27. Among those who attended were Councillor Ian Bates, leader of Huntingdonshire District Council Councillor Mike Simpson, deputy leader, council chairman, Councillor John Davies, Terry Downing, co-ordinator for the Help for Heroes charity in the district and Colonel John Jordan from the United States Air Force.

VETERANS Day and Armed Forces Day is being marked with a tea party on Saturday, June 17, at the RAFA (Royal Air Force Association) Club in Huntingdon Road, St Neots.

RAFA, the Royal Naval Association and the Royal British Legion have invited veterans and serving members of the armed forces to attend as well as people from the general community.

The Bedford Brass Band and the Cadets Corps of Drums from ATC 2500 Squadron, St Neots will be at the event. There will be stalls and information stands. Refreshments will be served by volunteers and the RAFA club bar will be open.

Among the guests will be the MP for Huntingdon, Jonathan Djanogly, the Mayor of St Neots, Councillor Gordon Thorpe and the chairman of Huntingdonshire District Council, Councillor John Davies.

INFORMATION: There will be overflow parking at Huntingdonshire Regional College. Transport can be organised on the day with those with travelling difficulties.
