THOUSANDS of people gathered in the darkness to watch the sky fill with colours at firework displays across Huntingdonshire.

An estimated 5,000 people filled the grounds of Kimbolton Castle last Wednesday evening to watch a 20 minute display by Kimbolton Fireworks.

The display was set to dance music, fired using digital technology and was similar to the display the company provided for the Trafalgar 200 celebrations.

Elsewhere in the district, Huntingdon Racecourse hosted the 1st Brampton Scouts' display on Friday and Eynesbury Rovers Football Club held its display on Sunday - Kimbolton Fireworks was again behind the display.

A total of 700 free-glow wands were given out to children at the Huntingdon firework display held in Coneygear Park on Friday . The theme of the evening was fire safety, and the wands were given out to deter children from using sparklers. The display, which was organised by the Oxmoor Community Action Group, lasted about 35 minutes and attracted around 4,000 people. Huntingdon's Mayor Councillor Jeff Dutton opened the event and it was attended by Huntingdon MP Jonathan Djanolgy.

Other displays took place at Godmanchester, Hemingford, Sawtry and Warboys.
