SUCH is the current confusion surrounding dentists that it seems that staff at one practice did not realise they were working for an NHS dentist.
The Hunts Post printed information from the Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust which said Stukeley Road Dental Practice in Huntingdon was one of four NHS dentists which was full.
The practice contacted the newspaper to say that it had not been an NHS practice since April 2006. The PCT insisted its original information was correct - and, after several phone calls, a spokesman for the practice finally conceded that it did still have an NHS contract.
Our investigation into the number of dental practices still taking on adult NHS patients in Huntingdonshire - just eight - arose after The Old Grammar School Dental Surgery, in St Ives, announced that three of its four dentists would treat only private patients from January.
