A MULTI-million pound refurbishment could take place at a Huntingdonshire RAF base, if planners give it the go-ahead.
The plans, which have been submitted to Huntingdonshire District Council for consideration, will allow for the transfer of staff from RAF Brampton to RAF Wyton.
Brampton is due to close when the transfer is complete in about five years' time.
If approved, the plans would see the former barrack blocks replaced with an office complex, the erection of new accommodation blocks, a motor transport facility and a training area, including sports pitches.
A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "This could secure the future of Wyton for years to come."
He added that the work at Wyton was expected to start in 2008 and be completed by 2010.
It is estimated that between 1,200 and 1,300 RAF staff will be moved from Brampton to Wyton with the rest being relocated to the Bristol area.
