IS anti-social behaviour a major worry for people in Cambridgeshire?

Cambridgeshire police have made anti-social behaviour their top priority after a survey among residents - but statistics suggest it is not a big worry here.

According to The Home Office, fewer people in Cambridgeshire than the rest of the country think alcohol misuse, noisy neighbours and criminal damage blight their lives.

But Cambridgeshire's top police officer Julie Spence said there was an "unequivocal response" in the county that nuisance crimes had "the greatest daily impact on local communities".

The chief constable, who retires in September, has asked the public to help solve a "policing puzzle" of conflicting messages.

She has invited members of the public to email her direct (julie.spence@cambs.pnn.police.uk) to tell her how it really is.

Ms Spence said: "A survey of 2,700 Cambridgeshire people (asked what should be at the top of the police's to-do list) came back with the unequivocal response that you want us to concentrate on anti-social behaviour with a focus on speeding in rural areas and parking outside schools in urban areas.

"Yet official figures show that the perception of anti-social behaviour in Cambridgeshire is among the lowest in England and Wales."

She said "It could be that the changes we have made to local policing are not yet showing results.

"But it may also be that we are just missing some vital part of the equation. Only you know the answer and can tell me and my officers."
